- ORDERING TIME FRAME
Because there are so many variables in fixture design (length, finish, etc.)
we will build your fixtures upon receipt of your order. So please allow
1-3 weeks for construction and 2-10 days for shipping. We ship UPS ground
unless otherwise specified. If a part shortage prevents us from starting
your project immediately, we'll call and discuss the new time frame to see
if it's acceptable to you. You will be charged only when we begin construction
on your fixture.
- CUSTOM
ORDERS
Because of the bewildering array of fixtures and finishes, we will build
your lights upon receipt of your order. This gives us the flexibility to
modify many designs to suit you needs; different lengths, widths, mounting
of sloped ceilings, installing switches, all can be accommodated and usually
for only a modest price increase. Ask us for a quote for any modifications.
Of course, if any changes result in a fixture being so unique we can't sell
it to anyone else if you change your mind, the fixture is considered non
returnable.
- SWITCHES
Most sconces and many ceiling fixtures can have switches installed if you
need them. Please consult us, and expect this to add $10 to the price. Additional
modifications such as cords off of sconces and "swag" ceiling
fixtures can also be accommodated.
- SLOPED
CEILINGS
Most fixtures that are rod or chain hung can be adapted to hang from a vaulted
ceiling. Please be sure to mention this to us when ordering. The additional
charge will run from $5 to $15 depending on the fixture design.
- UL APPROVAL
Most of our reproduction fixtures can be UL listed. Underwriters Laboratories,
Inc. is a nationally recognized safety-testing agency that develops and
regulates standards for lighting devices. In some cases UL listing involves
practices and materials that differ somewhat from earlier practices. On
fixtures that include loop to connections (which is quite a few) or chain,
we prefer the appearance of the old-fashioned cloth covered wire over the
plastic wire and shiny copper ground wire required by a UL listing. Fixtures
with no exposed wiring will be sent with a UL label affixed. On those with
exposed wiring, the choice is yours. If you prefer the small increase in
safety, or are required to have a UL label, request a UL listing on the
order form and we will wire accordingly.
- CEILING
FIXTURE LENGTHS
Here are the rules of thumb: For lights that will be walked under, 80"
from the floor works well. 72" from the floor over counters and breakfast
bars is reasonable, and 66" from the floor over a dining room table
is common. Take the appropriate number and subtract it from your ceiling
height, and you will have the overall length of the fixture, which is what
we need from you.
Of course, these are guidelines from which you can deviate to suit your
taste. And we're happy to consult with you if you wish.
- GIFT CERTIFICATES
Our lights make a wonderful gift for anyone that loves old homes, or appreciates
the detail and design of an earlier time. And personal taste is a large
factor in the final choice. So, if you wish to help someone you care for
illuminate their life but would like to allow them to decide what's most
attractive, our gift certificates are just the ticket. They are available
in any denomination, and we'll send it out with your name proudly displayed
as donor.
